From Mountain
to Table
Croghan’s roots span the landscapes of County Wexford, Ireland. Our story began when our Dutch father, Luc and Irish
mother, Ann met in the west of Ireland. Their union bridging two cultures and setting the stage for an unexpected journey.
On Croghan Mountain in North Wexford, our family’s cheese-making adventure first took shape. A neighbour’s goat sparked
an interest that would soon become our parents’ passion. As their skills and ambitions grew, so did the need for a
dedicated space to pursue their craft.
This led our family to the small coastal village of Blackwater, in Wexford, where our parents acquired a 12-acre
plot. With our grandparents’ support, this land was transformed into a thriving farmhouse cheese business. Every
step–from clearing gorse-covered fields to hand-digging the cheese cellar–was a labour of love.
Luc and Ann’s unwavering commitment to using fresh milk daily and handcrafting each cheese, set new standards–earning
accolades and a place at the tables of top restaurants across Ireland, Britain, and the USA.
Growing up between Croghan Mountain and Blackwater, we witnessed firsthand the power of a purist approach to craft and
quality. Despite modest means, our table was always rich with lovingly prepared meals, instilling a deep appreciation
for culinary excellence and the joy of shared dining experiences.
As life often does, it presented our family with new challenges and opportunities. While our parents’ chapter in
cheese-making ended due to ill health, the entrepreneurial spirit they instilled in us lives on. My brother and I
initially pursued different career paths, but our shared heritage called us back to the world of culinary appreciation.
Croghan is the culmination of our family’s legacy and our own entrepreneurial journey. We curate the highest-quality
products for cooking, dining, and home enjoyment. Each item reflects the values that shaped us: quality of craft,
authenticity, sustainability and innovative design.
